The development of polymers is the biggest achievements made in chemistry which has a significant effect on everyday life. Owing to the published work on these topics and long-standing interest of my laboratory in the study of polyimides via Diels–Alder reaction, a synthetic work on novel polyimides have been carried out. Malaria is one of the most common diseases in developing countries and poses a great challenge to world health. Resistance of malaria parasites to available antimalarial drugs remains the main challenge to the effective control of the disease. The physiological conditions prevailing with in the acidic digestive vacuoles of the malaria parasites provide a suitable physiochemical environment for conversion of heam to beta-hematin/hemozoin. Though the both protein as well as lipids mediated beta-hematin formation remain valid hypothesis but later seems to be more relevant, when mechanism of hemozoin synthesis is considered as a simple physiochemical reaction. Some repeats earlier heme show loss of beta-hematin formation activity of the parasite lysate by protenase K and heat treatment. The digestion of this cytosol, which consists essentially of hemoglobin results in the formation of potentially toxic ferriprotoporphyrin IX (FP). Several antimalarial drugs are thought to exert their effect by complexing with FP, thus inhibiting its detoxification through polymerization to hemozoin. This work systematically explores the process of constructing quantitative structure activity relationships (QSARs) to predict rate constants of various reaction steps from catalyst structure. Specifically, this work describes how to construct accurate and broadly applicable QSARs by fitting quantum chemistry calculations to experimental data. The focus is on Ti and Zr homogeneous olefin polymerization catalysts containing mixed cyclopentadienyl/aryloxide ligation. Polyolefins are widely used to make plastic bottles such as the ones pictured on this cover. The basic principles developed here extend to all kinds of catalysts. A major focus of this PhD dissertation is the use of QSARs to understand fundamental reaction mechanisms and to design catalysts with higher reactivity and selectivity. In many cases, orders of magnitude improvement in catalyst performance can be obtained.

The spasmolytic activity of pomegranate juice concentrate against various spasmogens observed in the present study can be attributed to its antidiarrhoeal activity.

This book describes the synthesis and characterization of niobium-based metal complexes and their usefulness as catalysts for the polymerization of ethylene, norbornene, beta pinene and vinyl monomers. The polymerization of above described monomers was studied using niobium complexes based on N,N dialkylcarbamates, mixed chloro alkoxides, simple oxygen-containing ligands and the starting material for the preparation of such derivatives, i.e. NbCl5.Niobium N,N-dialkylcarbamates exhibited high activity for polymerization of ethylene when activated with TMA-depleted MAO and 1,2-dichloroethane as activator working at 1 bar ethylene pressure. These novel catalytic systems resulted very active in Ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of norbornene (NBE)with the highest activity never reported up to now for any transition metal catalysts. The dinuclear niobium compounds and simple oxygen-containing derivatives of niobium pentachloride were tested for ethylene polymerization and produced satisfactory results.In this context, it was found that easily accessible NbCl5 works as an excellent catalyst for the polymerization of ?-pinene styrene and butylvinyl ethers.

The field of olefin polymerization has been remarkably renewed with the use of metallocene and post metallocene catalyst. Novel transition-metal complexes were studied as catalysts in ethylene polymerization. The aim of this work is to investigate the feasibility of replacing the cyclopentadienyl ligands of metallocenes by bis(aminotropone) ligands as well as by new bis(imino)pyridinato ligands without losing the good properties of the metallocenes, such as high activity and formation of linear polymer. It was presumed that the polymerization mechanism and the active center in ethylene polymerization would be similar for iminopyridinato and metallocene catalysts. Titanium (IV) and nickel (II) catalysts based on bis(anilinotropone) ligands were prepared and their structures determined to clarify the relationship between structure of the catalyst precursor and polymerization results. In experimentation, the syntheses, structures and olefin polymerization behavior of Ti complexes containing a pair of chelating aminotropone [O-N] ligands are reported.
