A revealing look at the earliest days of the legendary band, captured in a collection of personal, never-before-seen photographs, the largest single trove of such important rock images ever uncovered. When they first came to America in June of 1964, The Rolling Stones had been together for only two years and were almost completely unknown to U.S. audiences. They often played on bills with a variety of other artists, not necessarily as the headlining act, and often received lukewarm receptions. Many of these earliest U.S. shows did not sell out. But in the years that Bob Bonis photographed them, The Stones went from unknowns to one of the most prominent bands in the world. Documented in these photos is this seminal period when The Stones made their transformation into the world's greatest rock 'n' roll band. And during that time, few were closer to The Stones than Bob Bonis, the tour manager for their U.S. tours between 1964 and 1966. While on the road with The Stones, Bonis, a passionate amateur photographer with a keen eye, an innate sense of composition, and a deep love for his subjects, snapped some 2,700 photographs of the band?a remarkable collection that until now has only been known to family and close friends. Onstage, offstage, and behind-the-scenes, these stunning photographs show The Stones in an entirely new light, intimate and unguarded. Here are Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Charlie Watts, Ian Stewart, and Bill Wyman in casual moments, in rehearsal, in concert, in dressing rooms, on vacation, on the road. Funny, surprising, provocative, beautiful, these photos recall an unforgettable period in history and offer a fresh look at these soon-to-be legends at the beginning of their fame. This was the point at which early manager Andrew Loog Oldham began to position the band as the antidote to The Beatles, troublemakers dressed in leather and singing about the dark side of relationships. Comprised of images unearthed after forty-five years, The Lost Rolling Stones Photographs is a groundbreaking portrait of one of the most iconic bands of the twentieth century.2929 Руб.
The definitive look at one of the most iconic rock bands of all time. Joy Division pioneered a genre of music and defined the look and sound of the post-punk era, and thirty years after the suicide of their lead singer Ian Curtis, they remain one of the most influential rock bands to have come out of England. Between their infamous live performances and two studio albums in the late 1970s, Joy Division set the Manchester scene alight, established Factory Records as the most influential label in pop music, and recorded some of the most enduring songs of the era. Kevin Cummins began his career just as the band formed, and for the few short years of their career was given closer access to them than any other photographer. Joy Division collects more than two hundred of his images of the band—sensitive photographs that capture their quiet introspection offstage, their close relationships as bandmates, and Curtis’s legendary energy in live performances—and supplements the iconic images with concert tickets, unreleased record sleeves, fan club badges, Factory Records flyers, and other rare ephemera. This book is the most definitive and heavily illustrated celebration of the band ever produced.5581 Руб.

Punk 45 is a revelatory guide to hundreds and hundreds of original seven-inch record cover sleeve designs--visual artifacts found at the heart of the most radical and anarchistic musical movement of the twentieth century. Spurred by the Desperate Bicycles' rallying cry "It was easy, it was cheap--go and do it!" and Mark Perry's "Here are three chords. Now form a band," thousands of new groups emerged in the wake of the Pistols, between 1976 and 1980. This politicized do-it-yourself ethic was applied to design as much as it was to music, and these lo-fi record sleeves declared politics ranging from anarchism to socialism, anticonsumerism, feminism and more. Spanning pre-punk to postpunk, Punk 45 is introduced and co-compiled by Jon Savage, author of the acclaimed, definitive history of the Sex Pistols and punk music, England's Dreaming, and the period's most pre-eminent historian. It features sleeves from bands such as the Adverts, Cabaret Voltaire, Crass, Dead Kennedys, Electric Eels, The Flamin' Groovies, The Human League, Joy Division, Pere Ubu, Plastic Bertrand, The Residents, X-Ray Spex and many, many others. As well as original artwork, the book also includes interviews and articles on designers such as Peter Saville, Jamie Reid, Malcolm Garrett and Gee Voucher, and interviews with record label founders such as Geoff Travis (Rough Trade), printing pressers and more. Punk 45 is an exhaustive, thorough and exciting celebration of the stunning artwork of punk music, including everything from the most celebrated and iconic designs through to the stark beauty of the cheapest do-it-yourself lo-fi obscurities.3299 Руб.
At the apex of David Bowie's spectacular rise to fame and glory, photographer Steve Schapiro seized a rare invitation from Bowie's manager for a private photo session with the pop star in LA in 1974... David Bowie, by 1974, was a man of many faces and as many albums, had already lived the life of Ziggy Stardust and launched Aladdin Sane, with albums Pin Ups and Diamond Dogs soon to come. A musical force to be reckoned with, Bowie was also widely regarded as a fashion icon, pushing the envelope of sexuality and style and having created an internationally renowned persona. The mostly never-before-published images in Schapiro's rare collection represent Bowie at his most creative and inspired self and present a glimpse into the intimacy that Schapiro and Bowie shared during their time together. As Schapiro tells it: 'From the moment Bowie arrived, we seemed to hit it off. Incredibly intelligent, calm, and filled with ideas, he talked a lot about Alistair Crowley whose esoteric writings he was heavily into at the time. When David heard that I had photographed Buster Keaton, one of his greatest heroes, we instantly became friends.' The first photo session started at four in the afternoon and went through the night till dawn. Bowie went through countless costume changes, each more incredible than the last and each seemed to turn him into a totally different person. Bowie relentlessly created these unique characters, each seemingly alive in their own charismatic space for Schapiro to create visual images to complement their very existence and turn them into iconic images for all time. Bowie and Schapiro kidded and laughed about shooting a series of close-up portraits on a putrid green background because they felt it was the worst possible background colour for a magazine, and so they did on this lark - with the image eventually becoming a People magazine cover. The last image they made was at four in the morning to wrap up the marathon session when they went outside to shoot Bowie on his motorcycle - the sun hadn't yet risen and the shot was lit dramatically by only the headlights of a car. This image remains one of Schapiro's favourites and is certain to live on in posterity.2209 Руб.
