In the early 1970's John Lennon and Paul McCartney each carved out hugely successful solo careers - both critically and commercially. However, by the end of 1972 the pair had hit their lowest points since first finding success with The Beatles. 1973's output however put both of them back on the musical map and so began the final period during which John and Paul were recording and releasing music simultaneously - and which is the subject of this DVD. John made only four more albums, his final set of songs released shortly before his brutal murder at the end of 1980. Paul made six further records with Wings and his second solo set, which appeared the summer before his former song-writing partner passed on. Composing Outside The Beatles - Lennon and McCartney 1973 - 1980 is an independent documentary film which reviews John and Paul's music during the second and final part of their parallel post-Beatles careers. From each of their comeback albums - "Mind Games" and "Red Rose Speedway" respectively, through Lennon's most successful phase and the enormity of the Wings phenomena, through to John's grande finale and Paul's bizarre but brilliant sophomore solo record. With the aid of rare footage, archive and exclusive interviews, contributions from friends, colleagues and experts, and a generous helping of some superb music, this film tells the story of how and why the further compositions of Lennon and McCartney were written.1639 Руб.

Back in 1976, nobody really knew that there was an old wave of British Heavy Metal. But within 2 years of their formation, Iron Maiden had spearheaded what came to be abbreviated the NWOBHM, and as with punk the year before, a new generation of performers, musicians and show-offs in general bought in a New Wave of the rock genre - and in the process made loud, raw, heavy music the global phenomenon it is today. For the first time this film investigates the New Wave - the bands, the records, the media and the series of unconnected events that led to the unfolding of this astonishing, durable and still hugely relevant form - which is heard even today on so many new records. Focusing on Maiden and the other pivotal bands of the time, such as Saxon, Samson, Praying Mantis, Diamond Head, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Girlschool and many others, this programme is the ultimate expose of a style which may not get as much press as Punk, but is equally as relevant to the music of the third millennium.1899 Руб.

This is the definitive collection of Shirley Jackson's short stories, including 'The Lottery' - one of the most terrifying and iconic stories of the twentieth century, and an influence on writers such as Neil Gaiman and Stephen King. "Shirley Jackson's stories are among the most terrifying ever written". (Donna Tartt). In these stories an excellent host finds himself turned out of home by his own guests; a woman spends her wedding day frantically searching for her husband-to-be; and in Shirley Jackson's best-known story, a small farming village comes together for a terrible annual ritual. The creeping unease of lives squandered and the bloody glee of lives lost is chillingly captured in these tales of wasted potential and casual cruelty by a master of the short story. Shirley Jackson's chilling tales have the power to unsettle and terrify unlike any other. She was born in California in 1916. When her short story The Lottery was first published in The New Yorker in 1948, readers were so horrified they sent her hate mail; it has since become one of the greatest American stories of all time.990 Руб.

This brand new documentary film tells the story of The Doors, not from the perspective of the surviving members - as has been told so many time before - but from the recollections, memories, stories and anecdotes of those who knew the group and its members best. Our panel is headed by a woman who was as close to Jim Morrison as anyone ever was; his widow Patricia Kennealy-Morrison. Patricia has rarely spoken on film about her relationship with Jim, or about her own memories of The Doors. This is a once in a lifetime contribution from someone who knew just about everything that went on. Next up is Billy James, the man who "discovered" Jim Morrison and an early incarnation of The Doors. Billy signed them to their first deal with Columbia Records, and gained the trust and respect of the entire group. Here he tells all about those very early days when The Doors were known only to a select few. Richard Goldstein – ex-editor of Village Voice and close friend of the band is on hand too with his anecdote-heavy version of events, as is Mark Benno, the legendary blues musician whose searing guitar graced the L.A. Woman album. The very finest Rock journalists and writers, and those who lived through and were affected by The Doors' music as it was being released also contribute to this most original documentary film. In this regard, we are joined by Robert Christgau, Johnny Rogan, Dave DiMartino, Ritchie Unterberger, Doug Sundling, and Jim Morrison’s biographer James Riordan. The programme is further enhanced by the rarest footage of the band in existence, classic live and studio musical performances, seldom seen photographs, news clips, location shots and much more.1479 Руб.
Iron Maiden's 1982 breakthrough, The Number of the Beast - its first with leather-lunged vocalist Bruce Dickinson - remains a heavy-metal watershed, and this Classic Albums program reunites the major players (including producer Martin Birch) for the undoubted pleasure of longtime Maiden fans. The interviews with band members and rock journalists in the 50-minute program touch on Maiden's early career, then delve into the creation of songs that have become hard-rock classics: the title song came about from a nightmare that bassist-songwriter Steve Harris couldn't shake, "The Prisoner" was inspired by the Patrick McGoohan television series, and the hit "Run to the Hills" made the sort of political statement (about white men's savage treatment of native peoples) that then-Capitol Records exec Don Zimmermann notes most American fans couldn't have cared less about while head-banging.1160 Руб.
