Microarray is a novel technology to identify gene expression of thousands of genes simultaneously. This work is attempted to perform microarray data analyses to determine differential gene expression using the open-source R programming environment in conjunction with the open-source Bioconductor software.We describe procedures for analysis of data using box plots and recommended procedures from Affymetrix for quality control are discussed. The Robust Multichip Averaging (RMA) and MAS5 procedure was used for background correction, normalization and summarization of the AffyBatch probe-level data to obtain expression level data and to discover differentially expressed genes.. Heatmaps are used to demonstrate over and under expressed genes in conjunction with t-statistics for determining interesting genes while pFDR was performed to remove false negative. We showed, with real data, how implementation of functions in R and Bioconductor successfully identified differentially expressed genes that may play a role in obesity.4552 Руб.

DNA microarrays are a powerful tool to investigate differential gene expression for thousands of genes simultaneously. Although DNA microarrays have been widely used to understand the critical events underlying growth, development, homeostasis, behavior and the onset of disease, the management of the resulting data has received little attention. Presently, the fluorescent dyes Cy3 and Cy5 are most often used to prepare labeled cDNA for microarray hybridizations. Raw microarray data are image files that have to be transformed into gene expression formats – a process that requires data manipulation due to systematic variations which may be attributed to differences in the physical and chemical dye characteristics. There are different approaches to analyse the large-scale gene expression data in which the essence is to identify gene clusters. This approach has allowed us to determine expression profiles of novel developmentally regulated genes. Recently, there have been emerging demands to analyse the function of genes from the gene expression profiles. Volatility provides a measure of the possible variation or movement in the price of a commodity experienced over a given period of time . In this study, volatility of maize prices for Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in comparison with the FAO Global prices for the period of January 2003 to August 2011 is estimated. The study employs measures of dispersion like unconditional standard deviation and the coefficient of variation together with a 20% band around the trend line compared with time series models, the ARMA and EGARCH. Maize prices in Kenya, Tanzania, and FAO Global were found to be time varying and thus estimated using the EGARCH model and the average unconditional standard deviation used as a measure of volatility. Volatility of Uganda maize prices was constant over time and was estimated using ARMA (1,1). The study shows that by both methods, maize prices in Uganda were the most volatile followed by Kenya, Tanzania and then FAO Global implying that volatility in the East African markets is high compared to the global maize market.4552 Руб.

Databases are growing in size to a stage where traditional techniques for analysis and visualization of the data are breaking down. In this book, knowledge of cluster analysis is applied to a socially relevant problem in India – Self Help Group (SHG). SHG has emerged as one of the most important models of socioeconomic development endeavours, particularly those aimed at women’s empowerment, livelihoods strengthening and poverty alleviation. This study sort to analyze the linguistic and the extra-linguistic features of the advertising discourse .The major research method opted for was the qualitative survey where the questioner used in soliciting information. The Critical Discourse Analysis was the dominant theoretical framework adopted. This approach emphasizes the analysis of power relations in discourse community. The C.D.A. managed to bring to the fore the components of inter-textuality, mood element, ideological aspect inherent in advertising discourse. The purpose of this study was to investigate teachers’ perceptions and practices of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) in Awi zone three secondary schools. The data for this study were collected through questionnaires from a total of 32 teachers at three secondary schools in Awi zone. The sample of the study was taken by using convenience sampling method. In order to gather data from the subjects of the study; questionnaire, interview and class room observation were used. The internal consistency of the questionnaire proved by Cronbach’s alpha. Both qualitative and quantitative methods of data analysis were employed. SPSS version 17.0 Windows was used to analyze the results of the questionnaire. One sample t-test was used to assure whether the observed and the expected mean score differences were significant. The statistical data analysis was descriptive and inferential. Frequency, a percentage analysis and mean scores were used. The data that was gathered from the class room observation and interview were qualitatively analyzed. An attempt was made to provide baseline data for developing intervention programme inputs from regional level planning and implementation of welfare programmes among the aged persons of Manipur. The objective of this book is to illustrate ways to reduce the numbers of work-in-process (WIP) at veneer lamination line using application of Kanban, work study and simulation. The main problem is the high work-in-process at hot press station. Different approach has been applied to overcome all of these problems. Just-In-Time (JIT) philosophy in terms of Kanban system (pull system) is the first approach to overcome the high WIP and rejection problem. Second approach is on the scheduling analysis of priority rules to overcome the poor planning and scheduling problem by comparing the existing rules of sequencing jobs by using EDD method with FCFS, SPT and LPT methods.The third approach to overcome the unbalanced cycle time is from the line balancing analysis by analysis by using the Ranked Positional Weight (RPW) method. Under five child mortality is a factor that can be associated with the safety of the population and taken as one of the development indicators of health and socioeconomic status. This study show that there is disparity of under five child mortality rate from region to region in Ethiopia. The main objective of this study was to investigate the existence of regional heterogeneity in under five child mortality and identify important determinant of under five child mortality in Ethiopia. In order to meet the objective of this study standard logistic regression and multilevel logistic regression models were used. This study has revealed that sex of the child, family size, education level of mother, age at first birth of mother, breast- feeding, using contraceptive method and region of child were found to be significant determinants of under five child mortality in Ethiopia. The multilevel logistic model provided interesting relationships that would not be evident from a standard logistic model. There is a variation of under- five child mortality from region to region and there is a variation of under five child mortality within regions.4635 Руб.
